One of the root cause of todays pollution is that all types of waste are disposed of together. After waste is mixed, it is nealy impossible to segregate and so, soruce segregation is the only answer.

Is what we throw away really waste???? By composting, we reduce half of the garbage that leaves our homes while creating the black gold that is compost. Having seperate bins for wet and dry waste might seem like a small step, but it is game-changing for the environment.

" Awareness must be like the rays of the sun , extending everywhere, illuminating all." Believing in these lines Brahma Appartment of sec-7 took initiative and in association with Dwarka Forum organised workshop for its residents on waste segregation and composting.

During the workshop, we have noticed colour coded bin for dry and wet waste at the entrance of their community hall, it reminds me of practising good thing on everyday basis. Secondly, one beautiful suggestion comes up from one of the resident is--- keeping one bin seperately at the society gate specifically for extra polythenes we have at our home. As we know these days we are getting number of polythenes and to dispose off them all we started keeping our garbage in that and most of the times, we give our garbage collector 2-3 polythenes. We can dump extra polythenes into that bin and give it to second level of rag picker who use to littered the garbage on road for these polythene. In this way, we are helping those rag-pickers, who need these polythenes for their livelihood, by stopping them to put their hand into garbage/dirt and giving them seperated polythenes.

These small small steps and suggestions if we would apply can be mile stone for the bigger achievement. Special thanks to Sh Munish Kundra ji and his MC team for giving this opportunity to DF for this workshop. Hopefully very soon society will be a zero waste society.
