Waste Segregation Workshop

In today’s times where there is a general awareness on environment pollution, their cause and their adverse effect on nature and human beings, unfortunately there is little that is being done on the ground. And one of the main causes (apart from many others) for pollution is the garbage piles that all of Delhi is experiencing it.  To initiate, inculcate, sensitize and gain some knowledge of garbage segregation DF organized a workshop on waste disposal presented by Swarna Latha, yesterday i.e February 7, 2016 at Shivalik Apartments.

She made a power point presentation on waste segregation.   Explaining the different types of waste, their segregation, the health hazard and how we can give back to mother earth.  During the session, she explained how we can initiate small waste compost project at society level without much investment or even can start at home level as the first level of segregation has to be initiated at the source level (home). The interesting part of this workshop was to create manure from kitchen waste at society or at home level, which could in-turn be sold off to local market (there are vendors available). She also explained what sort of waste should go to dump yard and recycling process.  She also touched on the topic of e-waste and how this should be disposed-off.

Waste segregation and disposal is the need of the hour.  It’s a necessity.  We all should take the first step in composting our kitchen waste, which comprises of approximately 60% of the total waste that goes in the dumps. If we all start today at small level we will be able to give a better air and pollution less environment to our kids.

We would like to invite and urge all RWA’s/ CGHS Societies to make a start with a small step of composting the kitchen waste.  If you would like to organize presentation in your societies please feel free to write to us. DF would like to see residents of Dwarka to move in the direction of Zero Waste (Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them).

We are sure we can make it happen!
