NGT order for Pollution by Rail Locomotives

Sensing that a lot being happening on front of curbing pollution in cities with total ignorance to railway diesel engines which consumes mammoth quantity of fuel every year a dialogue was initiated with Central Pollution Control Board. However, this central agency showed utter reluctance in handling the issue and tried to impress that it is a very difficult subject and except Europe & US nowhere else such standards are in force and agency itself is incapable of drawing emissions parameters. A case was filed with NGT and after hearing the case for 11 months a direction has been issued to CPCB, M/o Railway, Indian Railways, IIT-Delhi, M/o Petroleum to formulate standards within a period of six months and implement the same.
